Heliski Chile’s Central Andes

This unique heliski zone in Chile’s Central Andes consists of three distinct mountain ranges, has over fifty independent glaciers and is home to some of the highest and most dramatic peaks in the entire Andes chain. It encompasses a total skiable area of 5,000 square km and is one of the only heliski operations in Chile –if not the world – to operate entirely on privately owned land. Whilst other heliski operations in the region compete for the same terrain, here you have 100% exclusive access to some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the southern hemisphere.

Why Heli Ski Here?

  • Big, long descents in breathtaking alpine scenery.
  • Light dry powder.
  • Easily accessible from Santiago International Airport.
  • Exceptional alpine terrain suitable for wide range of abilities.
  • Very well appointed lodge.
  • Quality Chilean wines.

The Heliskiing

Outside of the Himalayas, the Andes are home to the highest mountains in the world and this region in particular offers some of the longest heliski descents anywhere in the world. Epic long descents averaging 1,200 vertical metres are the norm and with many over 2,000 vertical metres there are few places that can compete on this level. Breathtaking high alpine scenery dominates the landscape and with a typical moisture content of just 13-15%, the area attracts incredibly dry snow.

Lodging

Nestled in a valley amongst towering peaks, Puma Lodge was completed in 2011 and is now one of the most exclusive heliski lodges in the world. Opening your curtains in the morning you will be humbled by stunning mountain views and condors circling majestically overhead.

The executive chef prepares food using a wonderful selection of Chilean sea food and local meats, and needless to say the wine cellar is stocked with some of the finest Chilean wines, many ready to be taken to the lodge’s dedicated tasting room.

Puma Lodge offers a unique mix for the discerning skier – world class heliskiing amongst spectacular mountains run with the renowned efficiency of the more established Canadian operations and combined with relaxed Chilean charm in luxurious surroundings

Helicopters & Safety

The powerful A-Star B3 helicopter is particularly well-suited to flying at altitude and is the machine of choice for heli skiing in Chile. The helicopters are provided by Grupo Inaer, Inaer Chile and Suma Air - some of the most reputable helicopter companies in South America. Both pilots and engineers are highly trained and qualified professionals with extensive mountain flying experience.

All of the guides are highly qualified, seasoned professionals with extensive heliskiing experience. The latest in avalanche safety technology is employed and all guests are issued with (and trained in the use of) Snow Pulse Avalanche air bags, Mammut ‘pulse’ avalanche transceivers, shovels and probes.
