Mica Heliskiing's terrain covers 4,700 square kilometers on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia, Canada. These spectacular mountains lie near the northern end of the Rocky Mountain Trench, running alongside Jasper National Park and the Columbia Ice Fields to the east, and opposite the Monashee and Selkirk mountain ranges to the west. By road, Mica Creek Heliskiing is located 160 km north of Revelstoke, BC and 400 km west of Calgary Alberta.
The Heli skiing and Heli boarding
With particular emphasis on tree skiing, Mica Heli Guides offer fantastic variety of terrain, and superior quality, dry Rocky Mountain Powder. With a total skiable area of over one million acres set in the spectacular Rockies there are runs suitable for a wide range of skier and rider, from wide open mellow glacial runs and open bowls to steep couloirs and trees. A continental climate makes for very reliable weather patterns and it is seldom that days are lost to poor weather here. Small, tight groups of only four skiers / boarders make for a very flexible programme.
Accommodation
Mica Lodge is unquestionably one of the most dramatically situated heli ski lodges in Canada. Accessible only by helicopter Mica lodge and the recently constructed private chalet are perched at 1,200 metres and over look the Monashee, Selkirk and Rocky mountains.
The new chalet completed in December 2006 has four extra large deluxe rooms (each with its own fireplace) and a new hot tub.The main heli ski lodge has seven bedrooms with full baths and sleeps up to twelve guests. It was built in summer 2002 of log construction with a river stone fireplace, heated tiled or carpeted floors, an outdoor hot tub, huge windows, large dining and relaxing areas, ski shop, retail store and spectacular views from every suite.
As remote as the lodges may be, they are as comfortable as a luxury home, with self-generated power, heated stone floors, fireplaces, hot tubs, massage, telephone, wireless internet, Satellite TV, radio phone and of course a "Red Seal Chef" preparing fabulous meals.
Helicopters & Safety
The main helicopter used at Mica Heli Guides is the six-seater, A-Star B2 with room for the pilot, the guide, and four skiers. Kokanee Helicopters' Revelstoke base manager, Matthew Callaghan, does the majority of the flying. He currently has over 9000 hours of mountain flying experience and is specially trained for the environment. In 1999 Matthew was awarded an accomplished accident free safety award. He is also one of two certified Parks Canada Mountain Rescue Pilots. The Kokanee helicopter engineer is a full-time licensed aircraft maintenance engineer. He maintains the aircraft to standards that meet or exceed Ministry of Transport regulations, and systematically inspects each helicopter at the completion of every flight.
Each of our the guides meets or exceeds the requirements set by the B.C. Heli and Snowcat Operators Association guidelines and have been trained and certified by the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides and/or are members of the International Federation of Mountain Guides. They are both experienced mountaineers and professional guides and they offer a wealth of mountain guiding experience from around the world. As professional guides they make every effort to provide you with a safe and enjoyable experience. Each guide takes part in regular and ongoing refresher courses and training sessions including hazard recognition and management and emergency response.
