The word "Maniitsoq" means "uneven"
in the Inuit language. Appropriately this small town of
3,000 inhabitants - situated on an island of the same name,
is the base for heli skiing operations in Greenland. The
Maniitsoq community is surrounded by the highest and wildest
mountains in West Greenland, offering limitless heli skiing
and heli boarding potential.

Typical runs are found on surrounding islands, and on the slopes of the long, narrow fjords to the north east of Maniitsoq. Many runs end on the beach! A major part of the heli skiing experience here are the breathtaking views of the ocean and glacier-covered islands.
The heli skiing area is surrounded by 600 to 1,700 metre mountains, with the highest in the Evighedsfiord area reaching more than 2,000 metres. The length of runs average between 800 and 1000 vertical metres and up to 1,500 metres (4,500 feet). The heli skiing season lasts from mid March to mid June with consistently good powder conditions for most of the season and corn snow conditions in late season. From late April there is almost 24 hours of daylight making it possible to heli ski late into the night. Vegetation in Greenland is scarce, so there is no tree skiing. However, the area has a stable coastal snow pack with minimal risk of avalanche.
Other activities in the region include boat excursions, wildlife viewing (particularly whales) fishing and sea kayaking

Accommodation is in the comfortable 4-star Hotel Maniitsoq. All rooms are with marble bathrooms, phone, TV, free video programs, Internet connection and mini-bar. Guests also have access to fax, xerox .
Helicopters and Safety
Two small private groups of 4 heli skiers / heli boarders share an A-Star B2 helicopter supplied by Greenlandair.
Your heli skiing guide will be Nick Craddock from New Zealand. Nick is a UIAGM certified guide who has managed heli ski operations from The Himalayas to New Zealand. He is one of the most experienced heli ski guides in the world with over 20 winter seasons managing heli skiing operations.
