LAST FRONTIER HELI SKIING - SKEENA MOUNTAINS, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Last Frontier Heliskiing - the largest heli skiing tenure in North America, on the border with Alaska in Northern British Columbia

Why Heliski Here?

Location

Bell II Lodge, base for Last Frontier Heliskiing, is located in the Skeena Mountains about 220 miles northwest of Smithers, British Columbia. As the crow flies it is only 40 miles from Southeast Alaska and 200 miles from the Yukon. With a massive 3,500 square miles (9,000 square kilometres) of skiable terrain this is the world's largest single heli skiing area and to date only a fraction of the area has been explored.

The Heli skiing and Heli boarding

With a capacity of only 30 heli skiing guests a week and a maximum group size of five skiers/boarders and 1 guide in an A-Star B2 helicopter, this is an ideal choice for those who are looking for a more intimate heli skiing experience.

The majority of heli skiing takes place between altitudes of 600 metres and 2,600 metres.

Last Frontier Heliskiing has some of the most varied heli skiing terrain in Canada and it is no coincidence that some of Canada's most experienced heli skiing guides have left more traditional operations to work at Last Frontier Heliskiing. To many connoisseurs of Canadian Heli skiing this has become the pinnacle to which they return year after year. Some heli skiing operations may emphasize tree skiing or glade skiing but Last Frontier Heliskiing has it all; and at the highest quality - glaciers that stretch forever, wide open bowls and well spaced trees. This is also the largest heli skiing area in the world, with over 3,500 square miles (9,000 square kilometres) of skiable terrain. That's almost 500 times the size of Vail Colorado!

Ripley Creek (Click here for full Ripley Creek details) - Last Frontier Heli skiing has recently pushed the boundaries of its operation to explore its southern area more extensively. Up to 3 groups of 9 guests fly in one Bell 204½ helicopter 3,4 and 7 day packages priced towards a more budget conscious heliskier. No frills heliskiing. Accommodation is in the Ripley Creek Inn located in Stewart BC.

Accommodation & Facilities

Heli skiing guests stay in delightful new log chalets, which surround the recently renovated lodge. Each room has two queen-sized beds with down duvets, private bathroom, telephone and wood burning stove. Between the main heli skiing lodge and surrounding cabins there is a large sauna and open air Jacuzzi, which make a nice stop after a day of heli skiing in the Skeena Mountains. Always on hand is the resident masseuse to ease those aching muscles. In the main lodge you will find a dinning room, bar, lounge area, pool table and darts board.

Helicopters & Safety Pictures

Two A-Star 350 B2 helicopters are used at Last Frontier Heliskiing to transport a maximum of thirty heli skiers. The helicopters are immaculately maintained by a team of on-site mechanics; and are flown by pilots who have many years of mountain flying experience.

The safety standards at Last Frontier Heliskiing are second to none. Without exception, all heli skiing guides are seasoned professionals who have passed a series of comprehensives exams to qualify them as members of the A.C.M.G and the U.I.A.G.M., the recognised Canadian and International Mountain Guide Associations. Last Frontier Heliskiing is also a member of "HELICAT Canada", which sets strict safety standards for operating a heli skiing area.
Heli skiing guides continuously monitor the weather and snow stability in an effort to minimize hazards.
