Heli Skiing in South America
For those based in the northern Hemisphere, heli skiing in Argentina presents a perfect opportunity to relieve wintery withdrawal symptoms or perhaps to have a pre-season warm up for winter in the north. Either way, there is no doubt that aside from being a real adventure, heli skiing in Argentina is world class.
Being a relatively new concept, few people currently heli ski in Argentina and as a result there is more of an expedition / exploratory feel to the whole experience that you might find at more popular destinations in Canada. And, it also means that trips here are best suited to private groups of four to eight skiers or snowboarders.
We have two main programmes that we offer in South America. The first is based out of the resort of Las Lenas about 1,000 kilometres from Buenos Aires, near the border with Chile. Here, the resort offers some good challenging skiing / riding. But when you get up in the helicopter and see valley after valley of perfect heli ski terrain you soon realise that the resort represents just a pin prick of the possibilities in this enormous, impressive landscape.
The second trip we offer is truly unique and something that only a select few have ever been lucky enough to experience. Further south in the heart of Patagonia, this is a genuine expedition-style heliski trip through some of the most remote and mountainous areas in the world. Starting in Bariloche and finishing in the Cerro Tore / Fitzroy area of Patagonia, this heli ski 'safari' covers a distance of some 1,400 km, travelling through an untamed land of gauchos, rivers, lakes and mountains, skiing uncharted terrain, and staying in rustic Estancias with friendly relaxed service, good food and wine Adventure, wilderness heli skiing at its finest!
