Heliskiing in the Greater Caucasus


Nestled between Europe and Asia and bordering the Middle East, the soaring Caucasus mountains of Georgia are little known as a heliski destination, just a stone’s throw from Central Europe.

The Greater Caucasus Range rises up as a majestic mountain landscape, stretching 1200 km between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. In its central part, ten peaks outrival the famous Mont Blanc in height.

The heliski base in Gudauri borders Mt Kazbegi (meaning nobleman in Karbadian), a dormant strato volcano which rises to 5,054 m. Many landings are above 3,000 metres, the highest reaching 4,200 metres. Due to the high altitude, excellent quality powder snow is preserved on sheltered faces long after the last snowstorm.

The Lowdown

Family winter playground

With the convenience and amenities of a large, well-appointed hotel and increasingly modernized commercial ski resort, Gudauri is an ideal destination to accommodate families or mixed groups of heliskiers and non-heliskiers. As an added bonus, the helicopter takes off virtually from the hotel’s doorstep.
